Seton Keough’s Robi Zimmerman is the week four winner of Extra Innings’ Player of the Week award. The junior helped the IAAM A Conference power to three impressive victories last week.

The Gators defeated reigning Baltimore County champ and No. 7 Franklin Apr. 11, 4-0, as Zimmerman went 2 for 2 with two-run shot over the fence. It was the junior’s fourth four-bagger of the spring.

“You just want to make contact in that spot,” said Zimmerman. She came through in the clutch a couple of days later against Spalding in a rematch of last spring’s Ieague finals.

In the bottom of seventh, Zimmerman doubled home Mikki Kouneski with the decisive run in a 5-4 victory over the then-second ranked Cavaliers. It was the completion of the March 30 contest that was stopped in the fifth inning because of rain.

“Emily [Spalding pitcher Weiman] is a great pitcher so you have to be selective,” Zimmerman said. The junior co-captain took the mound in the regularly scheduled game Apr. 14 and handcuffed the reigning IAAM A champs, 4-1.

Zimmerman pitched a three-hitter to go along with a 2 for 2 day at the plate including a double. A three-year starter, she’s batting .727 (16-of-22) and is 5-0 on the mound with a 0.80 earned-run average.

“She’s truly a team player,” said Seton Keough coach Jackie Boswell, whose team (6-0) is No. 2 in the latest VSN Top 20. “She works hard and makes everyone around her work hard.”

Each week during the spring season, Extra Innings will recognize an outstanding performance by a softball and baseball player. The winner will receive a plaque, courtesy of Extra Innings.
