A big second quarter and a solid fourth quarter was the difference, as Archbishop Spalding held off visiting IND for a 45-39 IAAM non-league basketball game, Tuesday at Spalding.
The Cavaliers, who evened their record at 1-1, broke a 7-7 tie at the end of one quarter by outscoring the Indians 16-5 in the second quarter to take a nine point advantage into the half. IND countered with a strong third quarter, outscoring Spalding 16-10 to climb back within three, before the Cavs closed it out in the fourth.
Brelynne Young scored a team-high 11 points for Spalding and Ryann Evans added 10 points. In addition, Taysha Bender and Breanna Smith combined for 15 points.
Ja’lyn Armstrong scored 13 points to lead IND, with Grace Taylor, Brittany Isokpunwu and Shrya Williams combining for 22 points. IND dropped to 1-2 with the loss.
