In a very fast and physical IAAM A Conference soccer match John Carroll edged host the Institute of Notre Dame, 2-1, at Meadowood Regional Park on Wednesday.

The Patriots (7-0, 2-0) took the lead in the 26th minute as sophomore Olivia Di Fonso, the team leader in total offensive points, headed a cross from junior Leah Pace, who carried the ball down the wing before crossing it. This lone goal of the opening half gave John Carroll 1-0 lead at the intermission.

In the 67th minute, IND (0-2, 0-5) counter attacked with even numbers and were able to beat the Patriot defense and score a 20 yard shot as sophomore Kelsey Roberts scored converted the feed of senior Monika Harold. The Patriots immediately stepped up their attack and were fouled twice, both about 25 yards to the left side of the goal.  Sophomore Nicole Wojcik ripped the first restart, which hit under the far corner of the top cross bar but careened out into the field of play.  Her second restart hit the same spot only an inch or so lower and hit the net for JC’s second goal and the final score of the match.

IND did finish off the match with two restarts as a result of John Carroll fouls at just about the same spot as those taken by Wojcik, but could not take advantage of the opportunities.
