Winters Mill captured the title at its 9th Annual Falcon Invitational this weekend. The Falcons out-pointed runner-up Loyola (No. 16 in the latest rankings by the Maryland State Wrestling Association) by 27 points, 413-386.

Seven wrestlers reached the finals for Winters Mill, but only three were able to bring home championships, Bryan Drager (145), Cherokee Johnson (152), and Neil Rinker (160). Rinker, who is unranked by the MSWA, pinned Hereford’s No. 17 Nick Blake with 12 seconds remaining in the first period.

Dan Carr (120), Brandon Nail (126), Kyle Fisher (170), and Jordan Tuekam (182) settled for silver. Bailey Konold (113) and Troy Blessing (132) placed third for the Falcons. Koson Vantanaporn (106), Jason Morris (195), and AJ Holmes (220) finished in fourth place.

Loyola had a tournament high four champions, DeShawn Strand (106), No. 5 Dominick Reyes (138), No. 3 Nick Moreno (170), and No. 8 Alex Caltrider (220).
Moreno won by major-decision over Winters Mill’s Fisher, 11-1, in a match-up of state ranked grapplers. Caltrider pinned Meade’s Chris Bonilla at the 2:31 mark of the second period. Bonilla pinned Archbishop Curley’s No. 5 James Geer in the semifinals.

No. 13 Ryan Thomas and Cody Schumacher (132) were runner-ups for Loyola. Alec Feurer was third at 120lbs.

Hereford finished third, and tied Winters Mill with the most finalists of any team. They too, were only able to crown three champions, Jimmy Cavin (113, No. 9 at 120lbs), Khalil Rich (120), and Collin McNicholas (126).

Grabbing silver for the Bulls were Ben Janecek (106), Wes Porter (145), David Serra (152), and Blake. Hunter Williams (132) and Collin Whitney (285) placed fourth.

Curley’s No. 3 Josh Laubach won the 132lb crown and was named the Outstanding Lighweight for his efforts. No.1 Mansur Abdul-Malik (Pallotti) was named the Outstanding Heavyweight for his championship run.

Severna Park’s Trevor Bellotte (182) and Francis Scott Key’s Jon Millstreed (195) were the other event champions.
