Tiersa Winder scored a game-high 19 points and senior Candace Hendricks added 17, leading No. 5 McDonogh School to a 51-36 victory over St. Frances Academy in an IAAM A Conference contest in Owings Mills Sunday afternoon.
Winder scored 11 points in the third quarter as the Eagles (16-5 overall, 7-3 IAAM), avenged an overtime loss to the defending IAAM A Conference champs earlier this month. McDonogh now stands a game behind No. 2 Seton Keough (8-2 IAAM) for second place. Seton Keough lost to top-ranked Spalding, 49-36, Sunday afternoon.
Tyisha King led St. Frances with 13 points. The defending league champ Panthers (6-11, 4-6 IAAM A) currently sit sixth in the standings. The east Baltimore school has a non-league match with National Christian Academy Monday evening on Chase Street.
McDonogh travels to Spalding Wednesday. The Cavaliers won the first meeting, 63-45, earlier this month.
