Wildecats drop Atholton for 2-0 football start; Fisher tosses 3 TDs

Eli Fisher threw three touchdowns, two to Osita Smith, and Izair Perry rushed for 84 yards and a score as Wilde Lake High defeated Atholton, 29-20, in a Howard County football game Saturday evening in Columbia.

The Wildecats scored three touchdowns in a frantic fourth quarter, improving to 2-0 on a young season that’s been marred by weather. The game was originally scheduled for Friday evening, but was postponed because of lightning and heavy rain in the Baltimore region.

Fisher (nine-of-22, 119 yards) threw fourth quarter scoring passes of 19 yards to Amari Hutson and 13 yards to Smith, who recently committed to West Virginia University. Perry closed the scoring with 30-yard touchdown run.

Wilde Lake (2-0 overall and Howard), which won one game last season, led 10-7 at halftime after Smith (seven receptions, 94 yards) caught a seven-yard pass from Fisher. Atholton (0-2, 0-2 Howard) gained the lead in the fourth on Aaron Billigsley’s 80-yard pass to Chris Bookter.

The Wildecats went back ahead on Fisher’s 19-yard touchdown throw to Huston. Will Parker recovered a fumble for Wilde Lake, which takes on Centennial next weekend.
