Scorpions see their 11 game win-streak halted


Riding an 11-game win streak and in sole possession of first place in the Howard County boys basketball standings entering Friday’s home game with Wilde Lake, No. 17 Oakland Mills hit an unexpected bump in the road.

The visiting Wildecats battled their favored arch-rivals from start to finish and eventually outlasted them in overtime, 75-71. Marcus Mitchell led the way with 23 points, including a driving layup at the end of the fourth quarter that forced overtime, where the Wildecats outscored the Scorpions, 16-12.

Prince Shelton added 13 points for Wilde Lake, while Kwaky Boampong and Kyjuan Adams combined for 23 more.

Wilde Lake (7-5 overall) snapped a four-game losing streak, all within Howard County, and now stand at 4-4 in the conference.

Truth Norton scored a game-high 28 points to lead Oakland Mills, while Barry Evans added 15 points and Ahmed Diaby netted 11.

Oakland Mills (11-3 overall) is now 7-2 in Howard County and tied for first place with Reservoir, which defeated Atholton, 60-42, on Friday.
