Wilde Lake High’s football team needed only 12 minutes to find its wat into win column Friday evening. The Wildecats routed host Marriotts Ridge, 41-0, in a Howard County league contest.

Wilde Lake (5-1 overall, 5-1 Howard) scored 34 points in the first quarter points as Wildecats kept pace with Hammond and River Hill atop the standings. Wilde Lake travels to River Hill Friday evening.

Khalil Viera scored twice for Wilde Lake, and Eron Pruitt, Terrell Nickens, Chancy Waters and Antoine Barnes found the end zone. Wilde Lake rushed for 223 yards.

The Wildecats first two came through the air as Viera caught a pass from quarterback Joe Kelly and went 67 yards, and Kelly found Pruitt from 10 yards out. Viera scored his second touchdown on a 35-yard run.

Terrell Nickens picked up a fumble and went six yards into the end zone, and Waters scored from 20 yards out, completing the first quarter onslaught. A 55-yard interception return by Barnes in the second quarter ended the scoring.

Marriotts Ridge (0-6, 0-6 Howard) managed just 52 yards against Wilde Lake’s defense with EJ Gilman recording an interception with Arshon Jones, Zathy Ndiang and Erik Smith each getting a quarterback sack.
