Glenelg Country improved to 7-1 in the IAMA B Conference field hockey with a 3-0 win over Maryvale Prep, on a warm October afternoon, Monday in Ellicott City.

The game was very evenly matched in the midfield and remained scoreless most of the first half. With 3:05 left in the half, junior forward Allie Pickens scored off a hard shot from the top of the circle after a self-pass opportunity at the broken line circle.

After the half, the Dragons dominated early on the attack with senior attackers Sam Weinstein and Claire McAuliffe putting the pressure on the Maryvale defense and goalkeeper Katie Lentz (who made 7 saves in the loss). Weinstein scored off a fast break 2-on-1 opportunity just three mins into the half.  She repeated the same attacking strategy during another 2-on-1 opportunity just seven minutes later to put the Dragons up 3-0.

Maryvale was strong at earning offensive penalty corners, 19 overall, but GCS sophomore goalie Sarah Bates and the corner defense team of McAuliffe, senior defenders Alexa Olney and Brittney Jorgenson, as well as sophomore defender Kevyn Ann Jorgenson played outstanding, holding Maryvale off for the shutout. Kevyn Ann Jorgenson recorded one defensive save.

The Dragons will travel to Mount de Sales on Tuesday for a big match. Mount de Sales defeated the Dragons in the first meeting, which was the first game of the season.
