The third weekend of the area high school football season kicks off Friday with 29 undefeated teams. That number will change with three matches involving 2-0 teams on the slate.

Loyola Blakefield will try to continue its breakout start against one of the area’s top public squads. Franklin and Dundalk meet in a playoff rematch.

Below is the top five games of the weekend, followed by the complete area schedule.

No. 12 Howard (1-1) at No. 10 Loyola Blakefield (3-0)

When: Friday, 4 p.m.

What you need to know: The Lions, the premier program in Howard County the last six seasons, travel to Towson for the first of two matches involving VSN Top 20 teams. The Dons seek their first 4-0 start since 2009.

Harford Tech (2-0) at Kenwood (2-0)

When: Friday, 6 p.m.

What you need to know: Kenwood, which has outscored its first two opponents (North East & Perry Hall), 74-6, looks to secure its first 3-0 start since 2013. Coming off back-to-back Class 2A state playoff appearances, Harford Tech’s in position of third straight 3-0 opening.

Lake Clifton (2-0) at Mervo (2-0)

When: Friday, 6 p.m.

What you need to know: Defending Baltimore City Division II champ Lake Clifton takes a 5-minute bus ride to Hillen Road. Mervo, which has the inside track to the Division I title, thanks to season-opening win over Dunbar, is 28-4 against city league opponents since 2015.

Good Counsel (2-1) at No. 4 Archbishop Spalding (3-0)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

What you need to know: The Cavaliers face arguably their toughest test before starting MIAA A Conference play next week. Spalding played Good Counsel, ranked 4th in the state media poll, in a wild contest last season that stopped because of weather.

Parkville, with Noah Hambrick (left), Kevin Smith and Da’Vaughn Curbeam , will travel to Howard County for a non-league match with Hammond Friday evening. The Knights will try to reach 3-0 for the first time since 2015.

No. 16 Dundalk (1-1) at No. 6 Franklin (1-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

What you need to know: Two of Baltimore County’s best look to rebound after disappointing losses last weekend. The winner gets the upper hand in the county 3A division.
