Area football slate starts Thursday; Pallotti and St. Mary’s set for showdown

The sixth week of the area football season will offer bonus action, of sorts.

Baltimore County foes Loch Raven and Western Tech kicks off the weekend Thursday evening. Next week brings a “true” 3-day weekend as Baltimore City, Baltimore County and UCBAC leagues play Thursday.

A pair of Top 20 matches highlight this week’s action including a rematch of last year’s MIAA B Conference final. Seven squads will look to remain undefeated.

Below is the top five games of the weekend, followed by the complete area schedule.

Old Mill (4-1) at Arundel (3-2)

When: Friday, 6:30 p.m.

What you need to know: Old Mill looks to keep pace with South River (both 4-0) atop the Anne Arundel County standings. Arundel (2-1 in Anne Arundel) has won the last two meetings (26-21 last year; 12-7 in 2017).


No. 8 Loyola Blakefield (5-0) at No. 18 John Carroll School (4-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

What you need to know: The Dons face arguably their last major challenge before the historic 100th meeting with Calvert Hall College on Thanksgiving. The Patriots, riding a 3-game winning streak, lost at Loyola, 28-21, last season.


Quarterback Connor Hawkins will try to get Howard back on track when it plays at Wilde Lake in Howard County action Friday.

No. 12 St. Mary’s (4-2) vs. No. 14 St. Vincent Pallotti (6-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Fairland Regional Park, Laurel

What you need to know: The only two unbeatens in the MIAA B Conference collide in a rematch of last year’s league final. St. Mary’s defeated Pallotti, 21-7, for the championship last year after Pallotti won the regular season meeting.


No. 15 Marriotts Ridge (4-1) at Liberty (3-2)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

What you need to know: The Mustangs look to continue their breakout start with a 5th straight victory. After dropping decisions to Frederick County powers Linganore and Walkersville to start the season, defending Carroll County Athletic League champ Liberty has won three straight.

Kaire Omaja and Loyola look to remain unbeaten when the 8th-ranked Dons visit No. 18 John Carroll School Friday evening.

Glenelg (3-2) at Oakland Mills (4-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

What you need to know: After a thrilling win over Howard to retain the Elgard Trophy last weekend, Glenelg looks to remain perfect in Howard County (2-0). Oakland Mills (4-1 in Howard) has won four straight since falling to Hammond in the season opener.
