LaPlata of Charles County has advanced John Papanicolas (103), Dylan Dull (130), Jason Jennings (135), Daniel Brannon (140), Josh Llopez (152), Connar Zimmerman (160) and Jon Boarman (285) and leads the Class 4A-3A state tournament with 22.5 points after the first round at the University of Maryland’s Cole Field House.

LaPlata, which is looking for its third tournament crown and its sixth state title overall, leads defending champion Reservoir, which has moved forward state champ Mark Colabucci (171), state runner-up Josh Hamilton (285), Mason Kilcarr (103), Seth Rowell (130) and James Mullens (135), and is tied with Eleonor Roosevelt of Prince George’s County for second place with 17 points heading into Friday night’s semifinals.

Roosevelt has moved forward Skylar Barrowman (130), Jonathan Jones (140), Nate Jackson (145), Isaac Ndze-Williams (160), Aburough Abegesah (189) and Tommie Boozer (215).

In fourth place is Perry Hall with Zeke Salvo (103), Shaun Murphy (125), Robin Paguia (140) and Andrew Huber (215), and tied for fifth were Wilde Lake and North County.

The Wildecats advanced state champion Alex Polonsky (112), Marcus Coffield (140), Alvin Harris (171) and third-place state finisher Zathy Ndiang (189), North County moved Larry Brent (125), Cordell Blair (152), Pat Hyde (215) and Lorenzo Maddox (285) into the quarterfinals.

Maddox pinned Whitman’s top seeded Ned Daryoush, who was 28-2 coming in, ian 2 minutes, 56 seconds.
