Archbishop Spalding High graduate Jake Trantin has been selected to the preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association football team for William & Mary. Trantin, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound junior linebacker, is one of the nation’s top players at his position, earning preseason All-America distinction from Phil Steele and The Sports Network.
A team captain this fall, Trantin was a second-team all-conference honoree in 2009 after leading the Tribe with 90 tackles. The Odenton native also added 2.5 sacks, 10.0 tackles for a loss, three interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups. One of his best efforts last year came in the season-opening 26-14 victory at Virginia when he totaled 11 tackles, a sack, two tackles for losses, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
In his senior season at Spalding in 2007, Trantin had a team-leading 117 tackles and rushed for 1,094 yards and 13 touchdowns as the Cavaliers won their second consecutive MIAA B Conference championship.
