Sophomore point guard Aquille Carr scored a game-high 34 points to lead No. 1 Patterson past Rocky Mount Prep, 88-56, in the final day of the 15th annual Basketball Academy at Coppin State University Saturday night.
Junior guard Myrek Lee-Fowlkes finished with 22 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Senior shooting guard Rickey Meekins added 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Clippers (12-1).
After one quarter, the visiting Jaguars from North Carolina kept it close and trailed 20-17.
Patterson pulled away late in the second quarter, using a 10-3 run that was started with a floater in the lane by Carr and ended with a big slam by Lee-Fowlkes, who finished off a pass from Karrell Goines. The Clippers led 36-28 heading into halftime.
After the break, the east Baltimore school blew the game wide open in the third quarter. Patterson scored 26 points in the third, including 12 points by Carr.
Ahead 52-42 with 1:59 remaining, the Clippers finished with a 10-0 run in which Carr scored eight straight to end the third quarter.
In the fourth, Patterson scored 26 more points and ran Rocky Mount out the gym.
