St. Vincent Pallotti High has hired Ben Thompson as its new football coach. Thompson replaces Pat Courtemanche, who stepped down after the conclusion of the 2010 campaign.

Thompson spent last season as Mount St. Joseph’s defensive coordinator under new coach Blake Henry. In 2009, he was served under Scott Ripley at Cardinal Gibbons, which closed in June 2010.

In 2007 and 2008, Thompson was defensive coordinator at Old Mill where served as defensive line and running backs coach the previous three seasons. A 1993 Pallotti graduate, Thompson coached the Panthers’ junior varsity baseball last season.

Courtemanche, who went 18-35 in five seasons including a 6-5 mark (4-2 in MIAA C Conference) last fall, wanted to spend more time with his family. During the season, Courtemanche and wife Courtney, an athletic trainer at Pallotti, welcomed their second daughter.

Pat Courtemanche will coach the Panthers’ baseball team this coming spring. He’s currently head of the physical education department at the Laurel school.
