Aquille Carr (pictured left) scored 28 points, and Ricky Meekins added 15 as No. 1 Patterson rolled to a 86-49 decision over Carver Vo-Tech in a Baltimore City Division I contest on Kane Street.
With a layup late in the first quarter, Carr, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, reached the 1,000-point scoring barrier. The game was stopped briefly as Carr’s teammates congratulated him, Patterson athletic director Bill Buckless presented Carr with a commemorative basketball.
Carr, the national freshman of the year by MaxPreps a year ago, now has 1,017 points.
Carr’s milestone basket gave the Clippers (16-1 overall, 7-0 Division I) a 19-4 first quarter as they led, 42-21, at halftime. The victory keeps Patterson tied atop the division standings with No. 6 Edmondson, which plays at No. 8 City College Friday afternoon.
The Clippers travel to No. 11 Lake Clifton Tuesday before meeting the defending City league champ Red Storm next Friday night at Coppin State University at 7 p.m.
