The Hall is back.

Coming off its thrilling victory over Gilman School last Friday evening, Calvert Hall College leaped into the No. 1 spot in the statewide media poll Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals, who moved to the top position in the latest VSN metro area Top 20, picked up half of the 12 first-place votes.

The Towson school was sixth in the previous state poll. It’s the largest advancement into the state’s top spot during the regular season in the 21-year history of the poll. In 1993, Seneca Valley moved from No. 10 after the regular season poll into No. 1 iafter the state postseason.  

Arundel moved up two spots to No. 2 with four first-place votes. Gilman which held the state’s top-ranking the previous two weeks, fell to fourth. Calvert Hall, Arundel and Gilman are the only area schools in the state Top 10.

Broadneck moved a spot from 15th to No. 14, as did Old Mill (19th to 18th) and River Hill (22nd to No. 21). North Harford jumped two spots into the No. 22 position.

McDonogh School, which stormed into the Top 10 last week at No. 9, fell 25th after its loss to unranked Loyola Blakefield on the road. South Carroll and Hereford are the only locals in the others receiving votes category.
