Newly crowned MIAA A champ Mount St. Joseph is 5th; St. Frances maintains position for third straight final No. 1

With an extended state public postseason, a new state media Top 25 football poll was released Tuesday. The poll accounts for results leading up to this weekend’s state quarterfinals.

St. Frances Academy again headlines the local contingent. The nationally-ranked Panthers remain unanimous No. 1 with all 12 1st-place votes, with Mount St. Joseph (5th), McDonogh School (6th) and Calvert Hall (No. 10) in the Top 10. Also of local interest in the poll are No. 11 Franklin, No. 14 Archbishop Spalding, No. 16 Elkton, No. 17 Loyola Blakefield, and No. 22 Mervo

MIAA B Conference champ St. Vincent Pallotti, South River and Dunbar each received votes. South River was No. 23 in the previous poll, but suffered its first loss in the Class 4A East Region second round.

The final state media Top 25 poll of 2019 will be released following the completion of the state public playoffs.
