Five area girls’ soccer teams are No. 1 seeds as the state tournament brackets were revealed Monday afternoon.
Defending Class 2A champ Fallston has top-billing in the 2A North Region. The Cougars start their title defense against Rising Sun or Edgewood in the quarterfinal round Nov. 2.
Howard County champ Marriotts Ridge, and defending region champ Glenelg are Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, in the 2A South Region. The Gladiators lost to Winters Mill in the state semifinals.
Perry Hall (4A North) and River Hill (3A East) have No. 1 seeds. The Gators will play Dulaney Tuesday evening for the Baltimore County championship before a region quarterfinal date with Westminster.
River Hill opens against Mount Hebron or Northeast. The Hawks could cross paths with defending region champ and No. 2 seed Reservoir in the finals. The Gators lost to Tuscarora in last year’s state title.
A pair of Baltimore City teams, Poly (3A North) and City College (2A North), round out the local No. 1’s. Poly, the city league champ, host Franklin or Patapsco in the quarterfinals. The Knights could match up with defending region champ Eastern Tech in the semifinal round.
