On a beautiful spring St. Patrick’s Day, the top-ranked St. Paul’s Crusaders withstood the stalling tactics of perennial Midwest power Western Reserve Academy (OH) to capture a 12-4 lacrosse victory on Tullai Field.
Led by its experienced and talented attack group of Taylor Michel, Jay Carlson and Robby Maddux, the Crusies erupted for five quick goals to start the second half in building a 10-2 lead.
Michel scored twice and added four assists, Carlson scored four times and added a single helper, while Maddux fired in three scores and added an assist. In addition, Spencer Parks added two goals and Connor Curro scored once to round out the Crusader scoring.
The rebuilt St. Paul’s defense played patiently and effectively, switching between man and zone looks to confuse the visitors from Ohio. Crusader goalie, Gunnar Waldt was also very sharp, recording nine saves including three point blank stops.
St. Paul’s now holds a 3-1 record and plays next on Saturday against New England power Avon Old Farms (CT) on Tullai Field in Brooklandville.
