After going into a bit of mid-season hibernation, the St. Paul’s offense woke up in a big way with a resounding 17-7 MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory over Severn, Friday in Brooklandville.

The hosts jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never looked back, coasting to a relatively easy win. The Crusaders led 8-3 at the half and were up 12-3 before going deep into their bench throughout the third and fourth periods. The Admirals cut into the lead at 12-7, but the hosts quickly rattled off five straight tallies for the final margin.

The St. Paul’s scoring barrage was led by Jay Carlson, with four goals and two assists, as eight different Crusaders scored. Taylor Michel and Spencer Parks each contributed three goals and two assists, while Robby Maddux added a pair of goals and two helpers. Brett Parker fired in two goals to go along with a single assist, and Dan Gutberlet added a goal and an assist. Will Ridgely and Charlie Polovoy each added single goals, while Wyatt Land and Gavin Llewellyn added an assist each to round out the scoring for St. Paul’s. Goalies Gunnar Waldt and Mike Hart made seven and three saves respectively. Ridgely also won fourteen out of 22 face-offs for the victors. St. Paul’s out-shot Severn 39-18 and won the ground ball battle 27-15.

The Crusies improved their overall record to 10-3 and 4-2 in the MIAA. Severn dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in league. St. Paul’s plays at #1 ranked and undefeated Calvert Hall next Tuesday in an inter-divisional contest. Severn entertains 2nd ranked McDonogh in Severna Park on Tuesday.
