Mount Carmel traveled to Brooklandville on Tuesday looking to strike a big blow in MIAA B Conference basketball. Instead it was the Cougars who absorbed the big blows as the host St. Paul’s raced out to a 21-4 first quarter lead on their way to a 75-40 rout.
Nigel Sydnor led the No. 17 Crusaders with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. His work on the boards helped the Crusaders (7-1, 5-0) claim an impressive 37-19 rebounding edge.
Nine different players scored for St. Paul’s, which joins Glenelg Country as the two remaining unbeaten teams in the B Conference.
In addition to Sydnor, the Crusaders received 13 points from Tanner Brooks and 10 each from Cliff Cornish and Tony Williams.
With the loss, Mount Carmel slipped under .500. The Cougars are 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the league.
