The Crusaders went to the mat Wednesday evening with a lineup that included a few new varsity grapplers, inviting more questions than answers about who was going to come out on top.
Led by Sophomore Timmy Peters (125), St. Paul’s produced a series of clutch performances that ultimately translated into a 42-24 victory over visiting Annapolis Area Christian School.
Besides Peters’ tough 9-7 win, Senior Austin Sauter (135) executed a dramatic pin in 2:42, and Sophomore Greg Louzan (160) defeated his opponent 6-2 after a see-saw match of pins and near pins by both wrestlers.
Other highlights included Junior Ryan Gary’s (171) “alligator roll” pin in 3:37 despite wrestling at a higher weight class than normal.
St. Paul’s will travel this Saturday to Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa. for the duals tournament, which features elite teams from the Mid-Atlantic region.
