St. Paul’s offense goes prime time

Following a recent trend by other MIAA schools, St. Paul’s brought in rented lights and played the school’s first ever home night football game, on Friday.  The event proved to be a huge success, as the Crusaders routed visiting St. Frances, 54-0, to stay in the thick of the crowded race atop of the MIAA B Conference standings.

St. Paul’s (5-1 overall) improved to 4-1 in the league where it is tied for second with Archbishop Curley and Archbishop Spalding, all a half game back of Boy’s Latin.  The Lakers are 5-1 in the league after their 39-29 loss to Spalding on Friday.  Only two teams can emerge to play in the MIAA B Conference Championship Game next month.

The Crusaders took command early, scoring 21 points in the opening quarter.

Taylor Michel opened the scoring with a one-yard run and Spencer Parks followed with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jay Carlson.  Dale Harris capped the fast start with a 31 yard interception return for a touchdown.

Michel added a second scoring run, in the second quarter, and Andrew Agnone has two rushing scores in the second half for the Crusaders.

St. Paul’s path to the championship game is in its own hands.  Next Friday, the Crusaders will play St. John’s Catholic Prep in Frederick, before closing the season against Spalding and Boys’ Latin.  The Crusaders’ lone loss thus far came to Curley.
