Gators are No. 1 after back-to-back run in IAAM A; state champs Marriotts Ridge, Century finish in Top 10
by Derek Toney
St. Paul’s School, the preseason No. 1 in VSN’s Girls Lacrosse Top 20 has top billing in the final rankings of the spring season.
The Gators held No. 1 for most of the regular season. The Brooklandville school lost the mantle, as well as the nation’s top ranking, after a 20-7 shelling at the hands of Glenelg Country School.
St. Paul’s regrouped in the IAAM A Conference final, smothering the Dragons to win a second consecutive championship. Glenelg Country finished No. 2 followed by McDonogh School.
Century is fourth after completing the area’s lone perfect season in the Class 2A state final (defeated Hereford) at Loyola University’s Ridley Athletic Complex. IAAM A semifinalist Bryn Mawr School is fifth, followed by Glenelg and Archbishop Spalding.
Marriotts Ridge is No. 8 after winning the 3A state title over Severna Park, a team it lost by 10 goals during the regular season. The Falcons are ninth and Broadneck, which claimed a second consecutive 4A state crown, is 10th.
Maryvale Prep starts the second Top 10 followed by Notre Dame Prep, Manchester Valley, C. Milton Wright and 2A state runner-up Hereford.
Liberty enters at No. 16 after winning a second straight 1A state title. Fallston, the 1A runner-up, Westminster, Garrison Forest School, IAAM B champ Mercy and Towson complete the poll
