A number of teams participate in tournaments over the winter break, but both St. Paul’s and Mount St. Joe decided to take their talents to the tough POWERade Tournament at Canon McMillan High School in Pennsylvania.
Of the 44 teams in the tournament, Mount St. Joe finished 38th, behind St. Paul’s 31st place-finish, each placing two wrestlers in their respective weightclasses.
Gaels’ 171-pounder Tyler Rill was the highest placing Maryland wrestler, taking fifth in his weightclass, and teammate Brady Massaro added an eighth place-finish at 145 for Mount St. Joe.
The Crusaders sat into 31st place with a seventh place-finish by 140-pound Petter Galli and an eighth place-finish by Brad Mutchnick in the 152-pound weightclass.
Both teams are looking towards strong starts in 2011, with St. Paul’s heading back up to Pennsylvania to the Cedar Cliff Duals, Jan. 8, and the Gaels taking on Boys’ Latin and Calvert Hall on Jan. 5.
