When: Friday, 2
Outlook: The MIAA B Conference race to the championship game couldn’t be any tighter. Boys’ Latin, Archbishop Spalding and Archbishop Curley all have an identical 6-1 league record. With the possibility of a three-way tie for first place looming and with no tie-break advantages for any team, the MIAA has announced contingency plans to add a playoff game and move the championship game, currently slated for Nov. 13, to Nov. 20.
But all of that could be changed if St. Paul’s knocks off the Lakers on Friday. The Crusaders dropped a 21-15 decision to Spalding, effectively eliminating them from contention with two league losses. QB Spencer Parks and his crew would love for nothing more than to hand the Lakers the same fate they suffered last week after a loss.
Boys’ Latin ran past John Carroll, 34-14, a week ago. RB Brandon Barnes ran for 144 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns as the Lakers jumped out to a 20-0 lead early.
Boys’ Latin handled St. Paul’s, 40-27, 364 days ago on its way to the B Conference title game. The Crusaders held a 21-14 advantage going into the fourth quarter before the Lakers’ then-senior RB Patrick Steele ran for three scores in the final frame.
