Rivals St. Mary’s and Severn squared off in a MIAA B Conference basketball tilt, Monday evening in Annapolis, and the host Saints wore down the Admirals in the second half to capture a 58-49 victory, before a packed house.

Mile Wilde and Tevin Johnson each scored 18 points to lead the Saints and the two players combined to go 13-for-18 from the free throw line in the second half to nail down the victory.  The second half performance from the charity stripe rescued St. Mary’s (2-0, 1-0) after it made just 2-of-12 free throw attempts in the opening half.

Johnson added a team-high nine rebounds, while Danny Usewick scored seven points, had three steals, fives assists and five rebounds for the Saints.  Willie Brown also contributed thre steals, four assists and six rebounds for St. Mary’s.

Another key was early foul trouble for Severn (1-1,1-2), which was paced by 14 points from Jake Brudish and 10 from Cole Bailey.
