Then there were none. St. Mary’s High edged No. 20 Mount de Sales Academy, 51-49, in an IAAM B Conference Gold division contest Friday evening in Annapolis. It’s the first setback for the Sailors, who came in the only unbeaten in the conference.

Melanie Mocniak scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds for St. Mary’s, and Jen Broussard added 14 and a team-high nine rebounds. Hannah Schmidt tied Mocniak for game-high honors with 16 for Mount de Sales (12-5 overall).

The Catonsville school led 37-32 entering the fourth quarter, but St. Mary’s (11-6 overall) outscored the visitors, 19-12 over the final eight minutes. St. Mary’s (7-2 IAAM B) now stands a half-game behind Mount de Sales (7-1) in the division.

Monday, the Saints welcome Notre Dame Prep, which is in a virtual tie with John Carroll atop the IAAM B Red division. Mount de Sales travels to Bryn Mawr School Monday.
