Nate Lewnes of St. Mary’s turned just three first half carries into 109 rushing yards and three touchdowns to stake St. Mary’s to a 22-14 first half lead, Friday night in Frederick, and the Saints held off a second half rally by the host Vikings to prevail, 30-26, in MIAA B Conference football.

St. John’s (4-5, 2-5) pulled within four when Nick Peifer completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Grier Wilson, with just less than five minutes to play.  SJCP then regained possession in the final two minutes and drove into St. Mary’s territory.

The drive, and game, eventually came down to a fourth and five situation for the Vikings.  St. Mary’s Connor Crowley, however, made a big play, sacking Peifer to clinch the win.

The Saints are now 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
