St. John’s Catholic Prep girls soccer team won its second straight Maryland Independent Schools State Tournament Championship, on Saturday at the Hagerstown Soccerplex, winning three games, including a 5-1 victory over St. Maria Goretti in the championship game.
St. John’s, which competes in the IAAM B Conference improved its overall record to 8-8-2 with the three wins.
Marial Pierce and Maggie Nelson each scored two goals in the final and Laura Malagari scored once for SJCP. Pierce, Nelson and Meghan Conway also contributed assists. In addition, Victoria Elliot and Beth Ann Pierce shared the duties in the St. John’s goal during the tournament, posting shutouts in two of the three games.
