Nelson scores 31 as Vikings come from behind in the second half
In battle between two teams near the top of the MIAA B Conference basketball standings, St. John’s Catholic Prep rode a sensation offensive performance from Macahi Nelson to score a come-from-behind, 73-70, victory over host Chapelgate Christian, Monday evening in Ellicott City.
Nelson was virtually unstoppable for the usually defensively stout Yellow Jackets as he scored a game-high 31 points. The Vikings trailed by five at the half, 35-30, but found another gear in the second half with Nelson leading the way.
Dorian Tema added 12 points for SJCP, while Antonio Perez finished with 8.
Jax Felder paced Chapelgate with 25 points, including the 1,000th of his high school career. In addition, Julian Copeland scored 17, Jaylen Marbley had 15 points and Zef Fuanya contributed 10 points.
Despite the setback, Chapelgate Christian (12-4) remains in second place in the B Conference at 5-2, behind undefeated St. Mary’s (5-0). The Vikings (4-4) overall are now 2-1 in the conference and in third place.
