It’s history for St. Frances Academy football. The Panthers are again No. 1 in the final state media Top 25 poll.
The East Baltimore private school went wire-to-wire in the No. 1 position for the second straight year, joining Good Counsel (2011 and 2012) as the only schools to accomplish the feat. St. Frances is the first team to three-peat at No. 1 in the final Top 25.
Featuring six Under Armour All-Americans, St. Frances went 11-1 this season, playing an independent schedule. The Panthers, ranked 5th nationally by USA Today and No. 4 by MaxPreps, only lost to California powerhouse Mater Dei.
MIAA A Conference champ Mount St. Joseph is No. 5, followed by MIAA A finalist McDonogh School (6th) and semifinalist Calvert Hall College (10th) in the final Top 10. Class 3A state semifinalist Franklin (No. 14) is the highest ranked area public squad.
Loyola Blakefield (No. 15), MIAA A semifinalist Archbishop Spalding (17th), and state semifinalists Elkton (2A) and Mervo (3A) are 22nd and 23rd, respectively. MIAA B champion St. Vincent Pallotti completes the area contingent at No. 25.
Dunbar, which reached the 1A state final, received consideration.
