Sparrows Point’s girls soccer team advanced to the Class 1A South Regional semifinals after defeating visiting Surrattsville (Prince George’s County), 9-0 on Tuesday.
The Pointers scored all nine of their goals in the first half with seven different players finding the back of the net.
Becca Zafia scored twice, while Maci Zellers, Katie Beam, Tori Andes, Sarah Barth, Kirsten Lacy and Becky Wortham all scored once. Autumn Ciarpella had an assist.
Next for Sparrows Point is a matchup with visiting, No. 20 Loch Raven on Friday at 5 p.m. In their last meeting, the Pointers upset the Raiders, 3-2, on Oct 22nd.
Loch Raven, the defending Class 1A State champion, defeated Sparrows Point in last year’s 1A South Regional title game.
