Former Archbishop Spalding running back Julius Chestnut was recently named Offensive Player of the Year in the Northeast Conference. The Sacred Heart College junior rushed for 717 yards in his team’s abbreviated four game spring season, leading the Pioneers to the NEC Championship.
Putting up numbers many backs would boast for a full season, Chestnut had 888 all-purpose yards and has scored 11 touchdowns. In 2019, as a sophomore, he rushed for 1,495 yards. Chestnut has also caught eight passes for 171 yards, including three TD’s.
Chestnut has also been named a candidate for the Walter Payton Award and was named to the All-NEC 1st-Team Offense. Chestnut and Sacred Heart have also qualified for the FCS Playoffs and learn their first round opponent when the bracket is announced on Sunday.
