It took three weeks but Archbishop Spalding’s girls soccer team finally played a game at home.
After travelling to Indiania for the Zionsville Invitation two weeks ago and participating in the McDonogh Tournament this past weekend, the Cavaliers were able kick off their home opener with a 4-0 victory over Howard on Monday evening in Severn.
No. 3 Spalding scored all four of it’s goals in the first half, jumping on the Lions early. Senior Maggie Morrison scored twice while sophomore Mo Ostrowski and Rachael Griffith each netted a goal.
Morrison, Samantha Kirk, Dani Beard and Amanda Palmers all had one assist for the Cavaliers, who improved to 4-3 overall. Spalding outshot Howard, 16-6.
Goalie Erin Leatherman made 12 stops for the Lions (1-2).
Spalding opens the defense of the IAAM A Conference title when league play begins on Wednesday with a game at Institute of Notre Dame.
