Looking to take one more step this winter, the Archbishop Spalding girls basketball team, which lost in the IAAM A Conference championship game to St. Frances last year, began its new season with a pair of wins over the weekend in it’s own tip-off mixer.
On Friday evening the Cavaliers routed Friendship Academy (DC), 82-24, as four players scored in double figures. Sherae Swinson led the way with 15 points, while Shaquilla Curtis added 13. Spalding also got 12 points from Aleah Epps and 11 from Camille Calhoun.
Swinson also added seven assists, while Maggie Morrison had four.
On Saturday, the Cavs coasted past Springside Academy (PA), 63-35. Again, Swinson had game-high scoring honors with 15, while Curtis finished with 14 points. Morrison was the third Cavalier in double digits, with 11 points, while Calhoun fell just short with nine points. Calhoun also had a team-high six assists on Saturday.
