Archbishop Spalding High girls’ basketball squad dominated Arizona’s Apollo Wednesday to post a 62-37 decision for the Gray Division championship at the Nike Tournament of Champions at Hamilton High in Phoenix.
Vanderbilt University-bound guard Maggie Morrison led Spalding (12-2 overall) with 14 points, and Shaquila Curtis added 13. Curtis, a guard/forward headed to American University, was named MVP.
The Cavaliers opened up a 29-17 halftime as Varsity Sports Network’s No. 1 squad posted their third double-digit victory at the nation’s premier holiday event. Raven Makins finished with 11 points for Spalding. Makins and Camille Calhoun were named to the all-tournament team.
Spalding returns to IAAM A Conference play Wednesday against No. 4 McDonogh School in Owings Mills.
