Salisbury, Md.–It may not have been a perfect semifinal round like the one they had a week ago at the Ray Oliver, but the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers were again dominant in the Saturday round, forwarding five of six semifinalists into the War on the Shore finals.

With the six wrestlers in the semis, Spalding advanced Mike Still (103), Cole Gallagher (112), Brady Gaynor (135), Will Switzer (145) and Charlie Lynch (152) to the tournament finals, where they look to add placement points to their team-point lead.

Winning a tight decision over Rising Sun’s Robert Rakes, Gaynor was up just one point going into the third period, and opted to put Rakes on his feet before taking him down and getting back-points in the final seconds of their scramble.

Teammate Switzer also took a tight one away from his Rising Sun opponent, Anthony Cimorosi, getting a stalling call to set up his 3-2 takedown advancing win.

Curley took a bit of a hit in the semifinal round, pushing along just two of their five wrestlers in 171-pounder Purnell Summers to take on Mount St. Joe’s Tyler Rill, and Avery Williams (189).

Summers’s buzzer-beating takedown following a late stalling call allowed him the tow-point win over Good Council’s Spencer Neff, and a shot at Rill.

Joining Rill for Mount St. Joe are 145-pound Brady Massaro and 215-pounder Tyler Tippett, who pinned his way into the finals, in the same fashion at Centennial’s Nath Kraisser (125).

Old Mill went 1-1 in the semis, dropping Caleb Marshall’s match to national star Cody Combs of Sussex Central, but seeing a finalist in Salaman Riddell at 140.

The medal rounds of the War on the Shore are set to begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.
