Goalkeeper Casey Beyers, along with defenders Bradley Kline, Erik Palasik, Nick Chao and Mark Truffer led a brilliant defensive effort for the Archbishop Spalding boys soccer team, which notched a 4-0 shutout of visiting Good Counsel (DC) in the Cavaliers season opening match, on Tuesday.
Four different goal scorers paced a very balanced attack for Coach John Coppola, as Matt Bishop, David Boretti, Will Grace and Shawn Huntzberry all netted scores. Grace also had an assist, as did John Sturgis, Sean Cottington and Mark Truffer.
Although they did not enter the scoring column, Coppola also praised forward Lee Martin for working tirelessly to create scoring opportunities and forward Alex Critzos, who played healthy and strong after missing a portion of the preseason with an illness.
Spalding will host the 1st Annual Cavalier Classic this weekend with games, as it hosts Fallston on Friday and Old Mill on Saturday. Both contests will get underway at 7:00 p.m.
