No. 2 Cavaliers win 4-0 as cancer research gets a big boost

Second-ranked Archbishop Spalding hosted No. 18 St. Paul’s School for Girls for an IAAM A Conference field hockey match, Tuesday, and although the teams battled in the Cavaliers 4-0 win, they also teamed up to raise funds for cancer research.

Parents and fans from both schools contributed to the fundraising efforts.

Clad in gray t-shirts with a pink “Play 4 the Cure” logo emblazoned across the front, Spalding got two goals from Margot Lawn and one each from Jules Ramey and Cami Lucente to claim the victory.

Selby Bumgarner, Katie Fichtner and Caitlin Koehler added assists for the Cavaliers (14-2), while the defense kept goalkeeper Sophie Somerville from having to record a save in the shutout.

Carson Stephenson had an outstanding game in the SPSG goal, stopping 15 shots to keep her team in the contest. The Gators fell to 4-5 on the season.
