No. 3 Falcons trip Meade on Kriel’s goal; No. 9 Seahawks go back-to-back

2017 Anne Arundel County Boys’ Soccer Champions – Severna Park Falcons

Third-ranked Severna Park High kept its undefeated boys’ soccer campaign intact Tuesday evening, knocking off No. 5 Meade, 2-1, in overtime for the Anne Arundel County championship at Broadneck’s Lawrence E. Knight Stadium.

Senior Sam Kriel scored the “golden goal,” 4 minutes, 33 seconds into the extra session, giving Falcons redemption from last year’s 2-0 county final loss to the Mustangs. Severna Park improved to 14-0-1.

Nate Carey also tallied for Severna Park, which only blemished is a 1-1 tie with Broadneck. Isaiah Guy tied the game for the Mustangs (13-2) with his second half goal.

The rivals will likely meet in the Class 4A East Region playoffs where Severna Park will be the No. 1 seed.

Shannon Parness’ second half tally was the difference for ninth-ranked South River (11-2-1), which won its second straight league title with a 1-0 victory over No. 5 Broadneck (12-2-1).

The Seahawks defeated Arundel in last fall’s final.
