Mustangs break a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth


A three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, elevated Marriotts Ridge 9th-ranked Marriotts Ridge to a 4-1 win over Northeast-AA, in the baseball opener for both schools, Saturday afternoon in Howard County.

Northeast jumped on top with an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but the host Mustangs evened the contest with a solo home run by Ira Snell in the bottom of the third. It stayed that way until the sixth when Snell once again delivered a big blow, a 3-run double.

Snell finished the game 2-for-3 with the double and home run, as well as run scored and all four RBI’s. The Mustangs only managed four hits as a team.

Josh Olsufka made the start for Marriotts Ridge, going the first four innings, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out four. Cooper Stepke pitched the final three innings and earned the win by allowing no runs and two hits.
