Both teams weather streaky stretches in the MIAA A Conference

John Carroll’s Ryan Skandalis scored the only goal of the game with just 7 seconds to play in the first half.

In the MIAA A Conference, soccer teams have to be able to weather some ups and downs, and No. 14 John Carroll and No. 8 Gilman are case in point.

John Carroll, which endured a 1-3-1 stretch earlier this month, is now unbeaten (2-0-1) in its last three games following Friday’s 1-0 win over the Greyhounds, who have now lost two straight after ending a three game winning streak.

Ryan Skandalis scored the only goal for the host Patriots, with 7 seconds left in the first half, and that stood up for the victory.

Good team movement found Cameron Tolson in front of the Gilman backline and he played the ball to Skandalis, a junior captain.

A strong defensive display led by JC senior captain Eric Schultz and sophomore backs Eddie Smith, CJ Supan and Andrew Denard kept the clean sheet. JC keeper Amir Smith recorded 2 saves in the contest.
