Despite missing two starters and only having one relief player, Glenelg Country School’s field hockey team defeated visiting Institute of Notre Dame, 5-0 on Thursday.
The Dragons (5-2 overall, 4-1 IAAM B Conference) started the scoring just three minutes into the game when junior forward Allie Pickens rocketed a shot from the top off the circle off a nice pass from sophomore midfielder Nicole Rieu.
Glenelg kept the offensive pressure on as senior forward Claire McAuliffe scored the second goal of the game during a scuffle in front of the cage five minutes later.
Senior forward Sam Weinstein netted an unassisted goal and senior forward Abby Franklin ended the scoring run for the Dragons, finishing a shot to the post from McAuliffe, both coming late in the first half.
Franklin then scored the only goal of the second half off an assist from Pickens. Glenelg goal keepr Sarah Bates made two saves to earn the shutout. Glenelg Country out shot IND 21-3 and held a 13-4 advantage on offensive penalty corners.
