Walter Johnson’s boys cross country team and the Severna Park girls claimed the Elite Schools titles at the annual Bull Run meet at Hereford High School on Saturday.
Mason Rivera (Hereford) finished second overall in the boy’s race with a 16:38 time, five seconds behind Braden Beuning of Linganore. Other local runners in the top 10 were Matt Jablonski (Loyola, fourth place), Kevin Corbusier (Loyola, eighth), Nick Pezza (Century, ninth) and Tyler Muse (Bel Air, tenth).
The Dons team placed third, placing all five of their runners in the top 50 including Hank Wiedefeld (23rd place), Pat Finley (30th) and Matt Lazzati (44th).
The host Bulls came in sixth place followed by Atholton and the Gilman School finished 10th.
On the girl’s side, Anna Bosse of Walter Johnson bested Maura Linde (Century) by 30 seconds to claim the individual crown.
Severna Park, running without three of its top runners, got a third place finish from Jodie Clouser (20:44). Michelle Nelson and Lauren Schuener placed fifth and sixth respectively while Laura Patterson came in 18th and Oliva Snow sealed the win, finishing in 58th place.
Howard County girls teams had a good showing with River Hill (114 points) claiming second place and Mount Hebron (116) taking third. The Hawks were led by Leanne Young’s 10th place finish and the Vikings were paced by Paige Vane, who took 13th place.
Host Hereford, behind Erin Causey’s top ten finish, took fourth place.
Severna Park’s boys claimed the Large School boy’s title while Wootton won the girls Large School division.
In the Medium School division, Albert Einstein took the boys and Lower Merion (Pa.) won the girls with Catonsville in a close second place.
In the Small School, Sam Andrews won with a 16:53 time, helping his Scorpions to a fourth place finish on the boy’s side. Bohemia Manor, powered by Cole Clifton, took the crown. On the girl’s side, Hanna Oneda (Winters Mill) claimed the individual crown while McDonogh, paced by Madeline Dulce, Miranda Beale and Jo Baird’s top ten finishes, took the girls title.
