Both Severna Park and host Broadneck’s boys soccer teams knew that Tuesday’s Class 4A East Regional title game would be hard-fought. The two teams went to overtime in their regular season match before the Bruins defeated the Falcons, 2-1.
It was much of the same yesterday as the Anne Arundel County rivals played 100 minutes of scoreless soccer.
This time, it was No. 8 Severna Park who outlasted No. 7 Broadneck, 5-3 in kicks, to advance to the 4A State semifinals on Saturday.
The Falcons (14-2-2) received goals from Elliot Belchatovski, Jared Fenton, Michael Utz, Billy Zito and Genya Meharg and keeper Brent Jones made a critical save for Severna Park.
Ben Campbell, Joe Gruber and Corey Johnson scored for host Broadneck, which finished its season with a 13-4 record.
The Falcons will now face Montgomery County’s Magruder, the 4A East champion, on Saturday at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville at noon.
