Severn baseball moved to 2-0 on the young season, Friday in Frederick, as the Admirals topped host St. John’s Catholic Prep, 11-6, in 10 innings.

The two teams completed the seventh tied at five and battled through two scoreless frames before the Admirals plated six runs in the top of the ninth.  The Vikings got one back in the home half of the inning, but it was not enough to prevent them from falling to 1-3.

Joe Kotler pitched the last five innings for Severn, giving up only two hits and striking out seven for the victory.

In the tenth, Severn loaded the bases and scored twice on squeeze bunts to break the tie.  Nick Stringfellow followed with a two run double and Jacob Lantz knocked in two more with a base hit.  Jake Ashworth finished with two hits and three RBI, while Sam Wachs added two hits and two RBI.  Kotler and Stringfellow each had two hits.

Colin Conway, Cory Matson, Nick Peifer and Andrew Rivera led the St. Jon’s offense with two hits apiece.  Both of Matson’s hits were doubles.
