Severn, which has been one of the top soccer teams in the IAAM B Conference all year, nearly toppled one of the top teams in the region, on Monday, as the Admirals took No. 3 Archbishop Spalding into double overtime before the Cavaliers escaped with a 1-0 win.

Spalding held an overwhelming 28-6 advantage in shots, but the Severn defense never wilted until Maggie Morrison finally delivered a golden goal for Spalding, with an assist from Gracyn Bryant, in the second overtime.

Spalding’s best defense was its ball control offense as keeper Jocelyn McCoy was forced to make just two saves.  Alie Schuh made four saves in the Spalding goal and Dora Kurtz made 14 stops for the Admirals.

Spalding sits in second place in the IAAM A Conference with 5-0-2 league record and is now 12-3-2 overall.  Severn dropped to 11-6 overall.  The Admirals are tied with Roland Park Country for second place in the B Conference, three points behind first place Bryn Mawr.
