Joe Kotler scored early in the match off an assist from Tinos Critsos as the Severn School boys soccer team topped rival St. Mary’s, 1-0, in a MIAA B Conference game on Friday.
The host Admirals won their fourth straight match and improved to 6-4 overall, 4-2 in the confernce. The Saints fell to 3-7, 1-4.
After Kotler’s early tally, the rest of the “Chesapeake Boot” soccer game was a defensive battle.
Seniors Colin Rainey and Andrew Igler, along with Junior Chris Kiehne, anchored the Severn defense. Goalkeeper Bobby DeStefano (two saves) registered his third straight shutout.
The Admrials also took one more shot than St. Mary’s in the game and pressured the net with four corner kicks. Hoffman, the Saints’ goalkeeper, tallied one save in the contest.
St. Mary’s will look to turn things around Tuesday when it visits Glenelg Country while the Admirals travel to Boys’ Latin on Thursday.
